Material Properties

A pile of chopped switchgrass dropped from a conveyer to evaluate storage angle of repose.

Important material properties include reduced moisture content to minimize the amount of hauled water and to enhance a stable shelf life during storage, increased loose and compacted bulk densities to increase payload weights, improved flow-ability of bulk-format switchgrass to increase the opportunities for automated conveyance and reduced problems that require operator intervention, and improved chemical constituents to maximize the yield of fuel and bioproducts.
